Malvern Optical has access to a laser and imaging range over 450 m which allows testing in a free-space environment.
The range provides a wide expanse of grassland with two adjacent runway hardstandings; one running parallel, the other across the range. A small satellite facility is located 1 km away.
The range can be used for multiple purposes, from passive imaging systems to active systems, such as laser illuminators or designation systems. Laser systems up to Class 4 can be accommodated with the implementation of suitable controls
Systems can be located at ground level, within the laboratory facilities or on the upper observation deck (with a working height of 7 m).
The laboratory facilities have power and large opening windows facing down the range, providing a more sheltered operating environment.
The top observation deck provides a 360º view of the surrounding area. The adjacent runways provide not only access but allow vehicle-based trials within the range.
